Local Attractions/Activities

If you would like to expand your exploration beyond the range of the farm property, there are a number of local activities available. Some are year-round, others are seasonal or single occasion. Some involves fees, some are free. Contact us if you have special interests and we will investigate for you. You can also get additional information from the website for Allegany County Tourism.

Local Color

We recommend that you make time to visit Andover. The local "hangout" is the Emporium. It started out as a gift-shop, but it is the in-place to go for coffee, snacks, and friendly conversation (you can still get gifts also).

Our most famous local artisan is located at 1 Main Street in Andover. His shop of authentic Celtic jewelry is a "must see" for visitors to the area.

Horseback Riding

We do not have saddle horses, but horse riding is available locally. We can make arrangements for you to ride trails, or to use an indoor arena (that farm's fees would apply to this activity). As of March 2012, they were charging $10 per hour, per rider.

Tours

There are a number of different types of farms in the ares (Amish, Dairy, Alpaca, etc.). It would be possible to arrange a tour of the area with stops at local farms (and other agricultural businesses). There is a local "Antique Trail" that takes you from one interesting antique location to the next. We have a number of internationally recognized artisans in the area and a tour of their shops could be arranged. There would be additional costs associated with some of these activities.

Wellsville Music on the Lawn

Each Thursday evening, during the summer, you can enjoy live-music on the lawn of the Wellsville Library. The musicians are professional quality. This is a unique, small-town, free activity. If you want lemonade, it is still twenty-five cents. We can provide you with a folding chair or a blanket to sit on.

Maple Festival

For more than thirty years the The Andover Maple Festival has been one of many functions of the Andover Lions Club to feature and promote its community and its community service. It highlights many local clubs, merchants, and organizations. It features crafts, antiques, good food (many maple items, of course), and good friends. This is a classic, small-town, community event held each year on the last weekend in March.

Andover Fourth of July

Every small town in the area has one or two major events, which they share with the region. In addition to the Maple Festival, Andover has THE big event for the Fourth of July weekend. Andover provides Allegany County with a spectacular July 4th Celebration, including an awesome parade, great entertainment, food and the most stunning fireworks show in New York's Souther Tier.

The Great Wellsville Balloon Rally

The Great Wellsville Balloon Rallyis another major event in our small community. It draws people from all over the country. This event is held on the third weekend in July.

A little farther away...but close enough for a day trip

Letchworth State Park

Letchworth State Park, renowned as the "Grand Canyon of the East," is one of the most scenically magnificent areas in the eastern U.S. The Genesee River roars through the gorge over three major waterfalls between cliffs--as high as 600 feet in some places--surrounded by lush forests. Hikers can choose among 66 miles of hiking trails. Trails are also available for horseback riding, biking, snowmobiling and cross-country skiing. Letchworth offers nature, history and performing arts programs, guided walks, tours, a summer lecture series, whitewater rafting, kayaking, a pool for swimming and hot air ballooning. Experiencing Letchworth by hot air balloon is unforgettable, as seen in this video clip.

Stoney Brook State Park

Stony Brook State Park's terrain comprises hilly woodlands, a deep gorge with rugged cliffs overlooking three waterfalls and fascinating rock formations. Great for an afternoon hike.

Church of Jesus Christ of  Latter-Day-Saints

 Historic Sites

The Sacred Grove, The Hill Comorah, The Priesthood Restoration Site as well as others are all located withing a 2.5 hour radius of Greenwood Hill Farm. These beautiful and historic sites are open all year for visitors and offer free guided tours.  In July, The Hill Comorah Pagaent is offered free to the public and is attended by thousands of visitors.
